Changing my eating habits

I am currently following a modified version of the Atkins lifestyle of eating. It's not low carb or high protein, the goal is to get rid of the processed sugars and flours out of my diet. In the first phase of Atkins, veggies are important. Anyone who knows me is quite aware of my love of fruit and NOT veggies. My list of edible veggies includes lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and green beans. I'd include corn and potatoes, but alas, they are starches. In order to succeed on the Atkins, I had to modify to include some fruits and also added nuts. I included bananas, strawberries and apples, along with some peanuts and SOME carbs. I like the Flat-Out wraps, and other lower carb, whole grain breads. I try to eat them early in the day so they don't effect my weight loss. I continue to read the Atkins plan books, try new veggies, and find healthier foods! It's a learning process, as this will be the eating plan for the rest of my life! I'm no longer going to DIET. I'm going to eat healthy!

Inspiration and goals

A few weeks ago, I received a Save the Date card for my Gram's 80th birthday. It had a picture of her with the party information. It hit me right then, that I was already a little more than halfway to my own 80th birthday. Yikes! How did that happen? I knew that I'd never make it to 80 if I didn't do something about my weight, which has yo-yo'ed for the past 20 years. My goal is to lose weight and get fit. Some folks focus on numbers, like a weight or size, but that doesn't work for me. My goal is to look in the mirror and say "Wow, you look great!" This blog will document my journey and keep me accountable.
